What Is Ceramic Coating?
Think of ceramic coating as a second skin for your car's paint. It is a liquid polymer that you apply on top of the clear coat. Once it cures, it bonds at a chemical level and becomes part of the surface. Not a layer sitting on top that washes away. Actually part of it.
What that means practically: water does not stick. Dust does not grip. Bird droppings and tree sap do not eat into the paint the way they do on an unprotected car. Washing takes half the time and effort. And the gloss? It does not fade the way a freshly waxed car does after 2 or 3 rains.
Wax lasts a few weeks. Ceramic coating lasts years. That is the difference.
Why Pune is Hard on Car Paint
Pune is not an easy city for car paint. Here is what your car deals with every year.
Summer runs from March to June and temperatures cross 40 degrees on bad days. That level of heat and UV exposure fades unprotected paint faster than most car owners realise. You notice it after 2 or 3 years when the colour looks dull and the clear coat starts looking hazy. Ceramic coating blocks UV and slows this down significantly.
Then the monsoon arrives. Four months of rain, mud, road grime, and Pune's notoriously hard water leaving mineral deposits on every surface. If you park outside, your car comes out of monsoon season looking worse than it went in. Ceramic coating's hydrophobic surface means water beads and rolls off before it has a chance to sit and stain.
And year-round, the construction dust. Pune has been under construction for a decade. Fine dust and concrete particles settle on your car daily. On an uncoated car they scratch the surface every time you wipe them off. On a ceramic-coated car they sit on top and rinse away cleanly.
If you own a car in Pune and care about how it looks, ceramic coating makes more sense here than in most other Indian cities.
Also Thinking About PPF?
These are two different products that do different things. Ceramic coating protects against UV, chemicals, water spots, and makes the car easier to maintain. PPF protects against physical damage: stone chips on the highway, scratches in parking lots, road debris on long drives.
A lot of our customers do both. PPF on the high-impact areas like the bonnet, front bumper, and door edges. Ceramic coating on the full car over the top. It is the most complete protection you can give a car's exterior.
How We Apply Ceramic Coating at Carbon and Chrome
Most ceramic coating failures come from bad preparation, not bad products. A coating applied over contaminated or scratched paint will lock every imperfection in permanently. Getting the prep right is 80% of the job. Here is exactly what we do.

Step 1 — We Look at the Paint First
Before anything else, we put your car under LED inspection lighting and go over the paint properly. Swirl marks, scratches, water spots, oxidation, paint defects. We find everything and show you what we find. Then we tell you what needs to be done before the coating goes on. Nothing starts until you are happy with the plan.

Step 2 — Full Decontamination
We wash the car with pH-neutral shampoo using a two-bucket method. Then a chemical decontamination wash pulls out iron fallout, tar, and industrial deposits that a regular wash cannot touch. Then a clay bar goes over the entire surface to remove anything still bonded to the paint. The car needs to be genuinely clean before we move to polishing. Not just visually clean.

Step 3 — Paint Correction
This is where the real work happens. Depending on what the inspection found, we do single-stage or multi-stage machine polishing to remove swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation. A ceramic coating applied over corrected paint looks dramatically better than the same coating applied over uncorrected paint. We do not skip this step to save time.

Step 4 — Panel Wipe Down
After polishing, every panel gets wiped with isopropyl alcohol to strip all polish residue and oils off the surface. The paint needs to be chemically clean at this point. Even a fingerprint left on a panel before coating can affect how it bonds. This step is quick but non-negotiable.

Step 5 — Coating Application
We work panel by panel. Coating goes on with an applicator block, spread evenly, then levelled with a microfibre cloth before it starts to flash. Every panel gets individual attention. This is not a spray-and-wipe job. It is slow, methodical work that takes several hours on a full car.

Step 6 — Curing and Handover
The car goes into our curing area and stays there. Full cure takes 24 to 48 hours depending on the coating tier. After that we do a final inspection under LED lighting before you collect the car. We also go through the maintenance routine with you so you know exactly how to look after the coating once you drive away.
Typical turnaround: 1–2 days for single-layer packages. 3–4 days for multi-layer or paint correction jobs. We'll give you an exact timeline at booking.

What Makes Carbon and Chrome Different for Ceramic Coating
There is no shortage of car detailing shops in Pune. Here is why car owners, from daily drivers to supercar owners, choose Carbon & Chrome for their ceramic coating.

What Sets Us Apart ?
01
We Are 3M and Gyeon Certified
Not every studio in Pune is certified. We are. That means the products we use are the real thing, our team is trained to apply them correctly, and your warranty is backed by the manufacturer. If something goes wrong with the coating, you have recourse. With an uncertified studio using unbranded products, you do not.
02
We Fix the Paint Before We Coat It
Walk into most studios in Pune and they will coat your car regardless of what the paint looks like underneath. We do not. If your paint has swirl marks and scratches, we correct them first. A ceramic coating over bad paint looks like a ceramic coating over bad paint. We want the result to be worth your money.
03
500 Cars and Counting
We have coated over 500 cars in Pune. Marutis, Hyundais, Crispy new Thar Roxx, BMWs, the lot. Every paint type, every condition, every car size. That experience matters when things are not straightforward, and they often are not.
04
7 Years Working in Pune's Conditions
We know what Pune's summers do to ceramic coating. We know how the monsoon tests a coating's hydrophobic properties. We have been watching how our work holds up in this city's specific conditions for 7 years. That changes how we recommend products and packages.
05
We Tell You What Your Car Actually Needs
06
You Leave Knowing How to Maintain It
ome cars that come in need the full treatment. Some cars just need a solid entry-level coating. We will not upsell you on a package your car does not need. We inspect first, recommend honestly, and let you decide.
A ceramic coating only performs as well as the maintenance that follows. Before you collect your car, we spend time going through exactly what to do and what not to do. pH-neutral shampoos, wash technique, what to avoid. The coating lasts longer when you know how to look after it. Most customers appreciate this more than they expect to.
Brands We Use for Ceramic Coating
We use 3M and Gyeon ceramic coating products. Both brands have a strong reputation in professional detailing and are used by certified applicators across India. We are certified by both. Every job uses original products. No substitutions, no grey market imports.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ceramic coating and how does it work?
Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds chemically to your car's paint and forms a hard, transparent protective layer. Unlike wax, it does not wash off after a few weeks. It creates a hydrophobic surface that repels water, resists UV rays, and makes the paint easier to clean. Depending on the package, protection lasts up to 5 years.
What ceramic coating brands do you use?
We are certified applicators for Norton, CarPro, Kovalent, Nasiol ceramic coating products. Both are professional-grade brands used in established detailing studios across India. We do not use generic or unbranded coating products on any job.
How long does ceramic coating last?
Our packages offer protection ranging from 2 years to 5 years. Actual lifespan depends on how the car is maintained after coating. Regular washes with pH-neutral shampoo, avoiding automatic car washes with rotating brushes, and an annual maintenance check all help the coating last its full warranty period.
Does ceramic coating prevent scratches?
Ceramic coating adds hardness to your paint surface and resists light swirl marks from everyday washing. It does not protect against stone chips, deep scratches, or road debris impact. For physical protection against these, Paint Protection Film is the right product. Many customers at Carbon and Chrome choose both.
Does my car need paint correction before ceramic coating?
In most cases, yes. Ceramic coating bonds to whatever is on the paint surface at the time of application. Swirl marks, light scratches, or oxidation present before coating will remain visible under it. We inspect every car before starting and recommend the right correction level based on what we find.
How long does the full ceramic coating process take?
The complete process including decontamination, paint correction, coating application, and curing takes 2 to 4 days depending on the car's size, paint condition, and package selected. The car needs to stay with us overnight after application for the coating to cure before exposure to water.
What is the difference between ceramic coating and regular wax?
Wax sits on top of the paint and washes off within weeks. Ceramic coating bonds chemically to the paint surface and lasts for years. It is significantly harder, more durable, and more resistant to UV, chemicals, and contamination than any wax or sealant product available.
Can ceramic coating be applied on top of PPF?
Yes. Applying ceramic coating on top of PPF is a combination we do regularly at Carbon and Chrome. The ceramic coating makes the PPF surface easier to clean, adds gloss, and helps extend the film's life. It is one of the most complete exterior protection setups for any car.
How do I maintain a ceramic-coated car?
Use pH-neutral shampoo for every wash. Avoid automatic car washes with rotating brushes. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals on the paint. Wash every 2 weeks in normal conditions and more often during the monsoon. Come in for an annual maintenance check so we can inspect the coating's condition.
Do you apply ceramic coating on luxury cars?
Yes. We regularly work on BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Mahindra Thar, Toyota Fortuner, and other luxury and premium vehicles alongside everyday hatchbacks and sedans. The same preparation process and coating standards apply to every car that comes into our studio.
